Since arriving in UK almost 3 years ago, I have never encountered outright racism. Today I did. We were shopping at Staines with my inlaws and had gone into one chained restaurant for lunch. We'd been to other branches but not this one. They usually have a 'family corner' and even a kids' menu so I presume it's a family-friendly restaurant chain (apparently not this one!). We couldn't find a table and when one became available, it was a 4-seater. Since all of us were hungry, we decided not to wait for any other tables and planned to move over a smaller table to accommodate the 6 of us. There were many other smaller tables scattered around and all except one was occupied. Adrian and my father-in-law tried to move that small table over but was stuck at one point by one customer who was sitting quite near to our table. They proceeded to try to lift the table over when many people started shouting 'wooooooo.....ehhhhh....what are you trying to do' and what-nots. We ignored them and sat down to look at the menu. When my inlaws and Adrian went to order food, Lavigne started crying and wanted Adrian. Most of those middle-aged and elderly beer-drinker raised their voices saying 'oi! shut up!'....'Keep quiet!'. I was furious! But since we have two young children, I didn't want to make a scene and instead went to my inlaws to suggest going to another place. I mean, no point eating there with those downright rude and racists right? Unfortunately, they had already ordered the food so we stayed. Adrian said that one person was talking about us when he walked past him. I couldn't remember what he told me because I was fuming mad. What's wrong with these people who sit around in the middle of the day guzzling beer and doing nothing? Simply waste of tax-payers' money!

if it were me, i would draft a ultra longwinded letter and sent to the newspaper forum section.
this kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable. so uncivilised. everyone is equal, we are all human beings, the colour of our blood is the same despite the colour of our skins.
if it were me, i would never ever go back to that restaurant again, even though it was not the fault of the restaurant but going back would bring back unhappy memories.
Yes, I won't go back there again because of the type of people who patrons the place.
