Brighter days

So the day we'd been waiting and praying for has finally arrived. Adrian had been offered a job as a senior lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire. Everything happened very quickly. He sent in his CV early last week, was called up for an interview end of last week, went for the interview today and was offered the job this evening. When he rang me after the presentation/interview and told me out of the 120 applicants for the job, 8 were shortlisted for the interview, I didn't think he stood a good chance, to be perfectly honest. It's not that I think lowly of him or anything like that but we'd been disappointed so many times. Furthermore, seven other people were vying for the job. But hey! Not only was he offered the job but he was given a position a few level higher than advertised for and the remuneration is totally unexpected. We're very happy, at least me for sure! But there's a problem, or rather, dilemma.

Adrian had earlier on applied for a job as a Patent Attorney with the largest Patent Company in UK. As he had not heard from them and the recruitment day was over, he'd assumed his application had been unsuccessful. Then after his interview this afternoon, he received a call from the company explaining that they'd not received his CV earlier (as the person-in-charge was on leave) or something. So, they want him to go for an interview early June. This is where the problem lies. The university wants Adrian to reply them asap. But the other job is the one he really wanted. So I'd asked him to ring the company to ask if they can bring forward the interview date and meanwhile, ask for more time to think with the other.

The PA job doesn't have a great pay to begin with. He has to take a few exams to qualify along the way. Once he gets all the qualifications, that's when the pay starts to increase a big deal. As for the other one, the starting pay is fantastic but the increment will be small.

I'm really pleased irregardless. At least there's an offer. If he doesn't get the other one, there's still something on the table at the end of the day. The future seems brighter now. I'm glad we know where we'll be heading. The months ahead will be very hectic and stressful. Looking for schools, a place to stay and moving. But I'm sure it will be all worth it! Our application to extend our visa was successful and we had just received our passports a few days back. Things will only get better.
