Floral skirt

skirt

This project is long overdue since the materials were bought almost 2 years ago. I was looking at some fabrics online, then stuff that people made. One thing led to another and I was inspired to sew a skirt for Louisa. So out came the mini sewing machine which had been in storage for a long time. I didn't follow any tutorial since I have a rough idea of how to put the pieces together. Only thing I wasn't 100% sure was the gathers and sewing in the elastic band. Then I found out they were quite easy to do. Now that I've got the hang of the gathers, I can do lots more. Unfortunately, the sewing machine being so small and light kept moving during stitching. If you look closely, the stitches are really ugly and untidy. I'm going to buy a pretty braid and stitch it over to cover them. How I wish to have a proper sewing machine. The moment I showed A the skirt, he said it looks like it's from Laura Ashley. I then realised my ironing board cover (from Laura Ashley) looks very similar to it too. In fact, my oven glove from S and the seat pads of my dining chairs all have the matching rose print. There's still quite a bit of fabric left which I will use to make a very simple summer dress for Lavigne. I've also cut out some of the flowers to make an applique on a white vest to match the skirt. Oh I always go through phases - baking, cooking, scrapbooking, sewing, gardening. Jack of all trades, master of none!

Awww.. this is the sweetest skirt! I love it alot and I agree with A that it is very "Laura Ashley". You do a very good job, even if you say you're master of none. I def can't even be any Jack nor Jane - My sewing is so ugly it won't even make it to be photographed.

Is that how you found my blog? I think the skirt looks really sweet. Hope you can get a new sewing machine soon too so you can sew up a storm.

Tsu Lin: Thanks! I simply adore floral stuff. If you inspect the skirt closely, you won't say I did a good job.

Little Munchkins: Thank you! I was looking at the Flickr Group - Sew, Mama, Sew (I think) and saw the very pretty dress you made.
