We finally made a trip to Costco yesterday, thanks to B.
Costco is a chain of membership warehouses that sell an array of stuff at lower prices. From electrical and electronic products to designer clothes (such as Calvin Klein jeans and Timberland jackets) and groceries. I was overwhelmed when I stepped into the warehouse. It was like the Ikea version of a hypermarket. I even played around with several digital cameras.
I can guess your reaction when you see the photo. Is someone in the family having a bad tummy, you may wonder. Hahah! Thank goodness no! There's a promotion going on and the toilet paper's really cheap! They sell them in 10packs of 4. So yes, I now have 80 rolls of toilet paper in storage. Most people buy at least 3 big packs. A said these will last us quite a while.
The downside of shopping there is if you want to buy household items and food, you'll have to buy in bulk. Hence the low cost. Look at the trash bags. I usually buy 20 in a roll from the usual supermarket. That's 100 in the picture. You are able to buy items in ones but they come in family size. Just look at the can of pineapple chunks, dishwashing tablets, peanut butter and laundry detergent. Baked goods are very cheap. Not only do the croissants, baguettes, cupcakes and muffins cost cheaper but they are huge in size and come packaged in bulk too. So unless one has a big family or those with ferocious appetites, they are hard to be consumed by the best before date.
Talking about the can of pineapple. I was telling B over lunch that I use only fresh pineapples to make pineapple tarts because the cans of pineapple that the supermarkets stock are so small. I have to buy quite a couple to yield a decent amount of jam. At Costco, I spied a (what else) huge pineapple and happily placed it in the trolley until I came across this huge can! Never in my life have I seen such a big can of pineapple! Now I know where to get my pineapple fix too! I announced to B and J that I shall eat my words and use the canned ones instead. They laughed!
Look at the sheer size of it!
Sadly, the CP wanton soup I was so eager to get my hands on was out of stock. Oh they also stock Kikkoman soy sauce, Thai sweet chilli and Jasmine rice (£6 cheaper than the Chinese supermarket)! I was like a kid in a candy shop. Have you forgotten I'm an oba-san?

Oh my gosh, you have CP wanton?!!! LUCKY YOU! I can eat it every day. If there's CP wanton here, I would buy all available stock! Haha..
Actually, I've not tried it before but have heard so much about it. Hope you're ok in SA.
Wow, that's a massive can of pineapple, perfect for your tarts...heh, looking forward to having a taste! Must get myself down to Costco soon, how exciting!
