Update on job front

No decision made as yet. Last Saturday, we drove to Hertfordshire to look-see the area, checked out 2 cities - St Albans and Welwyn Garden City. These are the 2 popular cities in Hertfordshire and are recommended by the people from the university.

St Albans is a very vibrant and busy city. An expensive one too. A visit to a couple of estate agents revealed that house prices are pretty high in the area. We were told that many Londoners move to this city while still holding jobs in London. It also has many private schools (Val, interested?) which shows that it is a rich city.

We much prefer Welwyn Garden City. It is more peaceful and quiet. Although there isn't a twice-weekly market like St Albans does, it doesn't bother me at all. I can still drive there once a week to do my shopping. For me, I prefer to live out of the busy area since I can go there whenever necessary. What surprised me was a quiet city like WGC has departmental stores such as Debenhams and John Lewis while St Albans only has BHS. The feel of the 2 cities are just very different. Not only that, house and rental prices are much cheaper at WGC too. It certainly ticks all the boxes for a family life.

Well, it's true we shouldn't count the chickens before they are hatched. But it'll either be the London job or Hertfordsire lectureship. Irregardless, we have to move out of this house early September. So I'd taken out some carton boxes saved from our move to UK and had started packing. I'm a totally NOT organised person so I'm starting early. I've already begun to clear out things which feels GOOD! Moving is said to be one of the most stressful events in life so I want to get organised to ensure the move can be a smooth one.

The girls had been talking about having a bunk bed. Adrian asked them who's going to sleep on top and both of them said they wanted to. But I don't think I'll ever get one for them, not in the foreseeable future at least. Lavigne is such a monkey and I get the jitters whenever she gets on a normal bed and jump about, let alone a bunk bed. No way!

Hopefully, we will have a decision in a week's time or so.

(PS : btw, WGC looks like a great place to live. A garden city, imagine how nice it is to live there, having all the lush around you everyday. Feels good! I am just so used to the filthy London air that everytime I step into a park, I get rejuvenated, I feel like I am breathing pure life!

Tsu Lin,

Yah, that's what we like about WGC.
