Since the cold snap, I'd experienced a few car skids myself on icy roads though nothing as extraordinary as the above. But I have to say, they were still very frightening for me. The worst was this Tuesday on my way to send the girls to school. I was slowing down to make a left turn when my car skidded and nearly crashed into another oncoming vehicle. At that moment, I was convinced I was going to hit the car. But thank God I didn't. It was a near miss. I had to stop there for a minute or so to compose myself.
The girls went back to school this morning after spending the past 2 days at home. I was dreading the drive. As I was maneuvering the car out of the drive, it got stuck and couldn't move further. I had to use the shovel to clear the ice and snow. Thankfully it was an uneventful drive. We made it safely to school and I got home alright.
Update: Another near miss on our way home earlier. Engaged engine brake but it didn't work on an icy slope. The driver in the car opposite my direction had to swerve to avoid me. I'm still shaking by the thought of it. That's it! I'm not going out unless absolutely necessary. Thank God the weekend's here.
