Pure ignorance or downright stupidity?

What on earth was the driver thinking when he decided to go car skating down a frozen canal? Cheap thrill? Not exactly cheap when the car is now submerged in the icy water. Some people think it could have been a case of a wrong turn but I doubt it. In my opinion, it's just senseless action on the driver's part.

Which brings to mind - reckless and irresponsible drivers on the road in this severe weather conditions. I had my fair share of car skids and am really terrified of driving these days. But whenever I'm on the road, not only do I have to be careful myself but I have to be cautious of other drivers in case they come crashing into me. I tell you, some people think they are Michael Schumacher and carry on driving at high speeds without care for other people's limbs. What's worse is there are others who use their mobile phones without a handsfree kit. I have to double up my concentration in this condition, how do they manage to talk and drive safely at the same time? I always say 'Risk your lives all you want but don't risk others.'

We had more snow today which caused yet more disruptions. Now the novelty of snow is certainly wearing off. It took me more than an hour to drive the girls to school this morning, a journey which normally takes no more than 10 minutes. There was a massive jam and I nearly had to abandon my car on that infamous curvy slope along the way. I had to stop as I was making my way up when the car started skidding (again!). All the cars behind me came to a halt, afraid I would roll back. Everytime I tried to step on the accelerator, it would careen left and right. I tried to calm my panicky self. When I successfully got the car moving, it was a great effort to get it to move along any further. I'd said my prayer as I went up the slope and offered thanks when I got over the hazardous part. That's when I looked in the rear mirror and realised no car was following behind me. All the other cars were stuck too! When I got to the school and out of the car, my legs were all jelly. Met 2 other mums who had just reached too and it also took them an hour to get there. They said I wouldn't be able to get to work as the whole city is chock-a-block. I had been determined to get to work today since I'd missed the whole of last week but after the incident, I thought against it as I had to tackle a few slopes to get to my school. Seriously, I wouldn't have taken that route if we weren't that late and there wasn't that big jam. Now I have to remind myself 'Better late than never'. We thought we saw some light at the end of the tunnel when the snow started melting yesterday. It will come eventually, maybe this Sunday, when it will be sunny and 7°C warm. Fingers crossed.
