Greetings!

We're here in Singapore! Just the girls and I sans the hub. He will join us later.

Thanks to the upcoming joyous occasion of my baby sister's (ok, she not quite a baby anymore but in our eyes, she's still our baby) wedding, we get to come back to Singapore for our summer holiday.

We have been very lucky. 3 trips home in one year. I don't think we can ever beat that record. Once a year is good enough. Twice is awesome. Thrice is stupendous and it will never happen again. It's just too expensive to come home. In my ideal world, I'd like to make a trip once every 3 months. That will be perfect! But I can dream on.

A friend asked me to eat and eat and eat all that I crave for. I wish I can be like when I was younger. Eat anything and not worry much about putting on weight. Now that I am of the age that I am, any morsel of food I put in my mouth will settle somewhere on my body as extra weight.

Since we're on the topic of food, I'll encourage the girls to try all kinds of local food whenever we are in Singapore. Food that we don't usually get to eat in UK. Yesterday I brought Louisa to Cold Storage and asked her to pick something from the snack department. She wanted me to buy her Oreos. I told her we can get that in UK and why not pick something else? You know what she replied?

'I need some time to get used to the local food. Just like you bring a bottle of water from the UK to mix with the local water for us to get used to. I need to eat some England food first to help me get used to eating the local food.' I didn't correct her that Oreos are from the States. Did I buy it for her? No. I got her a Old Chang Kee curry puff instead. She loves her Old Chang Kee curry puff. Afterwards, I asked if she'd preferred the Oreos or curry puff? She said the latter. I am pleased.

A clarification though. I always cook Chinese food with rice at home. They don't get fed 'English food' all the time.

It's good to be home!

I know how you feel! We feel relieved that the first things the kids want to eat when they are back in Singapore are always.. in this order - ban mian, chicken rice and bak kwa.

Sometimes, (fresh) Famous Amos cookies get thrown in the list too. But that's not considered considered American, coz they can't find that in USA. Haha!

Have fun in Singapore!
