Bridal bouquet

wedding bouquet

My favourite flower used to be the sunflower.  But I think it's got to take a backseat because I've decided I like peony more now.  My new sister-in-law requested for this flower in her bridal bouquet.  Her brief was a pastel coloured bouquet with peonies and roses.  We were in luck.  Peonies were in season, in fact it was coming to an end.  I managed to find these beauties in the sweetest pink from a local florist.  The roses were from Marks and Spencer and foliage FOC courtesy of my school's back garden.  I'm not sure what it's called but the leaves were in the perfect pale shade which complemented nicely with the rest of the flowers.  I recall the day when I was out there cutting in the garden.  There was torrential rain.  I didn't have a raincoat or an umbrella.  But it was all worth it!

I nearly had a disaster with the flowers.  As I'd bought them in advance so that they would bloom in time, I left them in the coolest room - the cloakroom.  Strangely, I found the heating on on the morning before the wedding (it had been switched off since before Easter).  That can be the coldest room AND the hottest (when the heating's on).  I nearly died of an heart attack when I got woken up by the sound of the boiler.  God knows how long it had been on for.  A quick dash downstairs and I found all the peonies in full bloom and the roses wilting!  Hence I hurriedly brought all the flowers out to cool.  What a shame!  The roses were really gorgeous when I bought them.  Some of them had not bloomed yet.  Thankfully, I was able to use most of them.  But I'm not entirely satisfied with the final product due to the roses.

This bouquet is very different from the one I did for my other sister-in-law.  It's a round posy while the other is a cascading bouquet.  Both posed different challenges but equally fun to put together.

You surpass yourself again, Ros. Simply gorgeous. And yes, I agree peonies are lovely. A good friend of mine used them at her wedding too, huge, magnificent blooms!
